Samsung has confirmed it will announce the much-anticipated Galaxy S IV at a public launch event in New York City’s Times Square on March 14, but until then, the details surrounding the handset’s design and specifications remain a mystery.

Recent reports have offered hints at what the new device may offer, and according to the latest, there will be two versions — one powered by Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, and one powered by Samsung’s eight-core Exynos 5 Octa chip. But why do we need two?

Earlier today Samsung’s official Twitter account tweeted an invite for the next Galaxy phone’s launch event. The teaser says “be ready 4 the next Galaxy” and includes date and time information.

Samsung will be holding an event for the public on Thursday, March 14th at 7 PM in New York City’s Times Square. A live stream of a coinciding “SAMSUNG UNPACKED” event for the press will be shown to the public. “Be the first in the world to experience it,” reads the teaser. Perhaps Samsung will have some devices on hand to let people try in Times Square.

This if the first time Samsung has launched a new phone stateside in several years. The device will be the Galaxy S IV and it should run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

HTC-One-front

mwc2013bug-coaBARCELONA, MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS — HTC hasn’t announced any new devices here at Mobile World Congress, but that’s because it chose to give its latest Android flagship, the HTC One, its own press event earlier this month. It is here to show off that device, however, and it’s easy to see why the Taiwanese company wants everyone to get their hands on it.

Android smartphone vendors are often criticized for using too much plastic, and making devices that feel cheap — especially in comparison with Apple’s premium iPhone. But the HTC One is very different. Made from a block of aluminum, the device actually has a lot in common with the iPhone, and it looks and feels exactly how a high-end smartphone should.
