We caught our first glimpse of the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX at CES with its added (but still irremovable) 3300 mAh battery. Instead of making things easy and allowing users the convenience of swapping out batteries, Motorola decided to create an entirely new version of the DROID RAZR, this time with better battery life for the power-sucking 4G LTE. Although everything besides the new battery remained the same, we weren’t given any sort of release date for the MAXX. The keen eyes over at Droid-Life noticed that Motorola wasn’t so coy, and in fact posted a release date of January 26 on their website.

One of the largest complaints about the Motorola DROID RAZR on Verizon is that of battery life. LTE sucks the life out of any battery, and the fact that Motorola chose to design the RAZR with an irremovable 1780 mAh, wasn’t a very smart idea. Realizing the errors of their ways, Motorola has announced a beefier DROID RAZR MAXX, this time with a larger (still irremovable) battery said to last 21 hours on a single charge. Of course the need to manufacture a completely new model could have easily been avoided had they made the battery removable.

Verizon has an update ready for the DROID RAZR and it’s set to bring improved 3G/4G data connectivity among other things. The “soak test” has already begun, along with the support documentation being added to the Verizon site. While there’s no official ETA at the moment, the document shown above let’s us know what users can expect to be included in the update:
