Google has made good on their promise to raise the allowable size limit for Android apps. Today they have raised the traditional 50MB limit to a whopping 4GB! While the majority of apps fall well below the previous app limit, this expansion accommodates larger, more demanding apps such as 3D interactive games. All the files will now be hosted on the Android Market and eliminate the need for a separate download from a third party host and should save users some time and surprise as they’ll get to see exactly how large these apps are before downloading them.

We have some good news for anyone interested in the world of app development. App Inventor has returned! For anyone who remembers, App Inventor was a way for your average person to learn about development while creating simple apps using a drag-and-drop concept. A year and many cat apps later, App Inventor was discontinued by Google and open-sourced for anyone looking to further its development. Being an educational tool, it wasn’t surprising when the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) decided to scoop it up and continue the work Google started. Fast-forward to today, and the first beta-version of MIT App Inventor is ready for download to anyone with a Google account.

That’s the reason they created Android Design, a central location for developers to go for UI tools and tips. After its launch, the Android team began to receive numerous requests for Ice Cream Sandwich stencils. Being the amazing Android team that they are, they have made these stencils available and they can be downloaded now by heading over to the Android Design site.

Google has been piling on the resources for developers as of late. It’s all part of their goal to help developers create an awesome and consistent experience for their Android apps. While resources and tutorials are great, nothing beats the help of a good old fashioned human being. That’s why Google’s Android Development team has launched a dedicated Google+ page where developers can meet and discuss the latest in Android app development with the very people who fuel the project.

Motorola hasn’t quite opened up to the idea of unlockable bootloaders as many would have hoped, but their latest announcement shows that at least they aren’t completely “closed” to the concept. Today Motorola announced a “Developer Edition” RAZR for Europe that will feature an unlockable/relockable bootloader along with all the usual RAZR goodies. They also announced that a developer device would be coming soon to the US but no specifics were given.
