Huawei-Tron-back

CoA-CES-2014Android-powered video game consoles like the Ouya haven’t exactly been a huge success, but Chinese electronics maker Huawei is hoping to change that with Tron, a device that looks remarkably similar to Apple’s new Mac Pro — albeit a lot smaller. It’s powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor and 2GB of RAM, and it’s expected to cost less than $150.

While adding physical controls instantly improves almost any mobile game, no one wants to carry around a big, bulky control pad all day. But it’s unlikely you’ll have any complaints about taking the iMpulse with you everywhere you go, because it’s so small it fits on your keyring — and it’s compatible with both Android and iOS devices.

Crazy-Taxi

The Dreamcast classic Crazy Taxi made its mobile debut on iOS last September, and today it finally comes to Android. It’s almost entirely the same as the original hit — it even has exactly the same soundtrack featuring Offspring and Bad Religion — but it’s been optimized for touchscreen devices.

Forget all the gadgets that you’ve seen coming out of CES over the past few days, this is by far the best you’ll see this week. Chad Boughton has taken one of Nintendo’s original Game Boy handhelds and turned it into something useful — a game controller for his Samsung Galaxy Nexus. See it in action in Chad’s demonstration video below.

Tablet gaming is evolving at an incredible pace. We can now play titles on our iPads and Android-powered slates that have graphics and gameplay that rival their console counterparts — and at a fraction of the cost. But I’ve always felt there’s one thing missing, and that’s physical controls.
