As a father of three, I know first hand the pangs of trying to pry away daddy’s device from a doe-eyed child. With so many kid-friendly apps, our adult priced devices offer endless fun and education for our children. Unfortunately, it’s not sensible to simply hand over a $400+ device to our little mayhem magnets. If only there were a cheaper alternative to ease a parent’s fears and still provide the functionality of daddy’s device. Well, Archos may just have the device to fill these needs. You may remember the ARCHOS 35 Smart Home Phone we showed you last month, you know, the home phone with Android on it. In addition, all G9 tablets sold in February should come pre-loaded with Android’s latest operating system.

Now, thanks to ARCHOS and Android, those people can have a home phone that is a smartphone, without the worry of an expensive cell contract. Introducing the ARCHOS 35 Smart Home PHone.

ARCHOS has been at the low-cost Android tablet game for quite some time but has yet to really make a splash. They’re hoping to change all that and piggy back off of the recent success of low-cost tablets such as the Kindle Fire. Today they have announced their plans to launch the first ever Honeycomb tablet for under $200. The majority of sub $200 tablets have been running on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and even though Ice Cream Sandwich is right around the corner, having a Honeycomb tablet that costs less than $200 might just attract some post holiday interest. Let’s take a look at what we know so far about the ARCHOS 70b and what it plans to bring to the table.
