BT and Alcatel-Lucent have teamed up to achieve lightning-fast speeds of 1.4 terabits per second in the U.K. — that’s over 10,000 faster than the current fastest consumer broadband available in Britain, and it will let you download 44 full-length HD movies in a single second.

What’s more, it was achieved using existing fiber broadband cables.

Alcatel One Touch has today announced a trio of affordable Android-powered devices; one smartphone and two ultra-portable tablets. The Idol X+ is the company’s latest mid-range smartphone, with a design not dissimilar to previous Idol devices. Whilst both the Pop 7 and Pop 8 tablets are aimed at the lower end of the market.

Alcatel has today announced the One Touch Hero, a 6-inch phablet with some really nifty features. It has a 1080p display and other high-end internals, plus an intelligent stylus like the Samsung Galaxy Note. But its special feature is its special covers, one of which features an E Ink display that will let you read books and more without using the phone’s power-sapping full HD display.

Yesterday, Alcatel introduced three new affordable mid-range Android devices to its One Touch family, which includes the Idol S, the Idol Mini, and the One Touch Evo 8 HD.

Sony Mobile has now confirmed that it has “an ambition” to launch its first Firefox OS smartphones in 2014 under a new partnership with Telefonica.
