Sony’s smartphone business has been dragging the company down for several years. While its gaming, camera, and other businesses thrive, the Sony Mobile has been having a negative impact on its bottom line.

But despite that, the Japanese firm insists it will fight on, and “never sell or exit” the smartphone business.

Sony is today pushing out its latest Android 4.4 KitKat update to its latest trio of flagship Xperia smartphones. The Xperia Z1, the Xperia Z1 Compact, and the Xperia Z Ultra are all getting the release, which promises performance optimizations, user interface tweaks, Xperia Themes, and more.

Sony Mobile has posted a press release on its blog announcing that it’s currently in the process of pushing out the much-anticipated Android 4.3 over-the-air update to the Xperia T, Xperia TX, Xperia V and Xperia SP. In terms of functionality, this upgrade brings the latest build of Jelly Bean, in addition to a multitude of stability improvements, bug fixes and some great Sony software features.

Earlier today, Sony officially launched its first dual micro USB flash drive, which has been designed by and large for users with very low storage capacities on their Android-powered smartphones or tablets. This memory stick allows it users to directly transfer files from their phone-to-PC without having to remove the microSD card. The unit features a full USB 2.0 port and a microUSB connector, nicely packaged into a compact, elegant body.

For the next 3 days, Groupon is hosting a special sale on Sony’s budget-friendly Xperia variant, the Xperia Miro. This particular handset usually retails at £125, but Groupon is offering customers a 21% discount — meaning that the device can be yours for £89.99.
