Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone maker that’s found fame in the West thanks to its many Apple clones, is said to be preparing a trade-in program that will swap your iPhone for the newly-announced Mi Note phablet.

The program is designed to dissuade those with an older iPhone from upgrading to an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, or to encourage those who already have to make the switch.

Wave goodbye to your removable batteries, Galaxy S fans, because it looks like Samsung could be ditching them for this year’s flagship. Sources say that the upcoming Galaxy S6 will have a high-end glass back panel similar to that of earlier iPhones or Sony’s Xperia Z devices, and you won’t be able to pull it off yourself.

Here’s one way to put your iPhone 5s to good use after upgrading to the iPhone 6: Install the Android L Developer Preview. It sounds like an impossibility given Apple’s incredibly tight control over device security, but a small group of university researchers have managed it using a clever workaround. You’ll find proof in the short demonstration video below.

Huawei’s new Ascend G7 isn’t its only device that was inspired by the iPhone, it seems. At IFA 2014 in Berlin today, the Chinese company also announced a new phablet — the 6-inch Ascend Mate 7 — which has a one-touch fingerprint scanner that offers almost instant verification just like Apple’s.
