WhatsApp for Android is getting the ability to backup conversations to Google Drive, ensuring you don’t lose important or sentimental messages when you switch devices.

Transferring your WhatsApp data to a new device can be a pain — particularly if you’re switching from Android to another platform, or vice-versa. But WhatsApp looks set to make it a whole lot easier by giving users the ability to backup their messages to Google Drive.

HTC has teamed up with Google to give selected smartphone owners up to 100GB of Google Drive storage absolutely free for two years. The offer applies to those with a One M8, Desire 816, and the Desire 610 — plus a number of popular devices that were launched last year. But there are some caveats.

Dropbox today increased its maximum storage option to 1TB for Dropbox Pro subscribers and introduced a bunch of new features while maintaining its monthly subscription charge at just $9.99. It’s part of the company’s effort to better compete with rival cloud-based storage services like Google Drive.
Google has started rolling out updates for its Google Camera and Gmail app bringing some minor usability enhancements to them. The update for Google Camera will allow users to use their Android Wear powered smartwatch as a remote shutter button for their smartphone or tablet’s camera.
