The development team behind Replicant OS, an open-source operating system based on Android, have discovered a security flaw with Samsung devices that can provide remote access to your data. The “backdoor” is found in a whole bunch of Galaxy-branded handsets — including the Galaxy Nexus — running “most propriety Android systems.”

Samsung has started rolling out a major over-the-air update for its Wi-Fi only version of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in Australia. This upgrade bumps the 10.1-inch slates firmware version up to P5110XXDMH2, which brings a mass of new features, bug fixes and stability improvements.

Samsung has announced that it will be releasing a special edition Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, entitled the Student Edition. The device will be available in white, as part of a bundle package containing loads of goodies to get any student up on their feet and ready for the next semester.

At last AT&T’s LTE version of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (SGH-I497) is the next device on Samsung’s list to receive the Android 4.1.2 update.

Since the tablet launched on AT&T’s network back in November, 2012, supporting 4.0 Jelly Bean which was only about a year out of date, it seems almost fitting that the 4.1 update is coming almost a year after Jelly Bean was introduced on the Nexus 7.

Samsung has begun rolling out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to two of its tablet in the United States. The Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 both began receiving the upgrade over the weekend, following its debut on European devices. As you’d expect, this software comes with a whole host of new features and improvements.
