When you buy a midrange smartphone, your chances of getting a next-generation Android update are pretty slim. It may not be that your device isn’t capable of running the update, but manufacturers tend to focus on their high-end devices instead when rolling out new software, leaving the cheaper models out in the cold.

But if you own a midrange Samsung device, you could be in luck when it comes to Android 4.4 KitKat. A leaked Samsung document suggests the South Korean company is investigating the possibility of bringing Google’s latest Android release to devices like the Galaxy S4 mini, the Galaxy S III mini, and even the Galaxy Ace 3.

The Galaxy S 4 Mini will be unveiled at Samsung’s June 20 event in London, according to “a person with knowledge of the matter” who’s been speaking to The Wall Street Journal. It will appear alongside “several” new devices running Android and Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S4 Mini next month, shortly after the flagship Galaxy S4. Like the Galaxy S III Mini, the device will be a smaller, cheaper version of its big brother that will allow fans to get their hands on the latest Samsung software and features without breaking the bank.
