Would you “go long” for the new Moto X? (I know it’s a terrible joke but I’m leaving it in.) Photo: Verizon

Football fans shopping for a new smartphone need look no further than Verizon’s new Moto X, which is designed to look and feel like a leather football… one that carries a Verizon logo. The handset is available to order now, priced at $119.99 — the same price as the white and bamboo model.

World-Cup-Nexus

Today’s the day the 2014 World Cup finally kicks off in Brazil, and I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be more excited. I’m a massive football (yes, that’s what it’s called) fan and I want to make sure I don’t miss a game, so I’m adding the entire World Cup schedule to my Google Calendar. Here’s how you can do the same in just a few seconds.

Google Now for Android is now even more useful thanks to a handful of new cards that have been added this week. You can now get car rental information, concert tickets, and NCAA football scores — and there’s even an awesome commute sharing card that’ll let you inform loved ones that you’re on your way home when you leave work.

There have also been some improvements to existing cards, including those for public transit and TV.

BBC-Sport-Android

The official BBC Sport app has finally landed on Android, more than six weeks after making its debut on the iPhone. Designed for devices that are 7 inches or smaller, it provides you with access to all of the content you’ll find on the BBC Sport website, but in a format that’s much easier to enjoy on a smaller display. It has dedicated sections for football (soccer), Formula 1, cricket, rugby, tennis, golf, and more.

Looks like Verizon was waiting until they had a device on their network that was actually running Android 4.1 before updating their NFL Mobile app. I guess that makes a bit of sense, however, they still could have pushed out Android 4.1 sooner. Back to the subject at hand: NFL Mobile.
