Google has confirmed it is catching up with the latest Unicode standards and bringing a whole bunch of new emojis to Android. The company has also tweaked the design of some existing ones — and you can see them all in the image below.
Google has been slow to adopt the latest emoji sets, meaning Android users cannot see certain icons used by iPhone-owning friends. But the company has promised to catch up, and it starts with a Nexus update that will begin rolling out next week.
If you have friends who use iOS, you’ve probably been getting a lot of messages that contain new emojis you can’t see. That’s because Android doesn’t support them yet, but Android SVP Hiroshi Lockheimer promises that Google is “on it.”
