Two days ago we told you about Verizon’s plan to allow carrier billing for up to $25 worth of digital content a month from the Play Store. Today was the day it was supposed to go live and while it hasn’t, Google has taken to the Play Twitter account to confirm that it is indeed on the way.

It looks like Verizon’s plan to offer carrier billing for Google Play Store purchases is finally coming to fruition. While the last thing I want to do to is add to my ridiculously high Verizon Wireless bill, there are some users out there that have been waiting for this convenience. Plus, some users (especially young ones) don’t have access to a credit card (although I believe Google Play gift cards to be a better option).

Earlier in the month, Google announced they would allow additional Google Play content such as books and movies to be purchased using carrier billing. Today, that feature has gone live for Sprint customers who originally could only purchase apps via carrier billing. As it stands, every major carrier other than Verizon appears to have support for carrier billing.

Google announced it will be extending carrier billing services to include all types of content on Google Play. Carrier billing is a “convenient” way to charge digital content directly to your carrier phone bill versus having to use a credit card or separate payment method. While it can be seen as more convenient, it’s also a dangerous road to go down. Our phone bills are already mini-car payments and adding digital content purchases to it can result in astronomical monthly bills.
