BlackBerry may be on its last legs and struggling to attract new customers, but that won’t dissuade Samsung from spending big to buy the company. While both companies have dismissed takeover reports over the past week, a new report claims Samsung really is still interested in acquiring a significant stake in the Canadian smartphone maker.

Sprint has announced that it has entered into an agreement to buy the other half of Clearwire for $5 per share, beating Dish’s current offer by $0.60 per share. The newly-revised deal values Clearwire at $14 billion, which represents a 47% increase over Sprint’s previous offer of $3.40 per share.

I was highly skeptical today when I heard the rumor of Samsung considering a purchase of the failing RIM, and it turns out rightfully so. Samsung has commented on today’s rumors and had this to say:

“We haven’t considered acquiring the firm and are not interested in (buying RIM),” Samsung spokesman James Chung said.

And just like that… the rumors are put to rest.

This rumor has been making the rounds today so I figured why not talk about it. According to a trusted source of BGR, RIM is looking for someone to buy their ailing company — specifically, leading mobile OEM Samsung. I, for one, don’t believe this will ever happen, and can’t even think of one good reason for Samsung to purchase RIM. Many will argue Samsung would gain things such as BBM, BIS/BES and most of all, RIM’s pile of patents. But does Samsung really need any of that? I don’t think so.
