It’s a long way to the top for Android 5.0 and 5.1 Lollipop, which account for a combined market share of 18.1 percent, according to the latest OS breakdown figures posted by Google. Meanwhile, last year’s flavor of the day, 4.4 KitKat, rules supreme with an unflinching 39 percent of the pie.

For the first time since making its public debut last November, Android 5.0 Lollipop has finally pushed its way into the latest Android distribution figures. 1.6 percent of devices are now running Google’s latest operating system, but Jelly Bean continues to cling onto the largest share.

The latest Android Distribution numbers are out and not much has changed. Timely updates, or updates at all for that matter, continue to be a thorn in Android’s side. No matter who we point fingers at, the fact remains, not enough devices are running the most current version of Android. In fact, more than 50% of Android devices accessing the Google Play store are still running Gingerbread — an almost 2-year old version of Android.
