HTC’s Vice President of Product Management, Mo Versi, announced today that the company will not be able to meet its promise of updating the One M7 and One M8 to Lollipop within 90 days from the day of the release of the code.

Even before Google had released Android 5.0, HTC had announced that it will be updating the One M7 and One M8 to ”Android L’‘ within 90 days from the code being released by Google.

HTC has already rolled out the Lollipop update for the unlocked, Google Play and developer editions of the One M8, and this announcement only pertains to certain carrier variants of the handset.

“We’ve been diligently working to fix some of them on our end and incorporating Google’s fixes as quickly as possible, but despite everyone’s best efforts some carrier versions of the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) will not meet our 90 day goal, which is February 1st,” said Mo Versi, HTC’s VP of Product Management in his announcement.

The company is working hard on updating the One M7 and One M8 to Lollipop within February 1st, but did not want to do so by compromising the user experience. As of now, the Taiwanese OEM is working through the testing process with its partners and hopes so share some good news with One M7 and One M8 owners soon.

With HTC already updating certain variants of the One M7 and M8 to Lollipop, it is more than likely that this delay is being caused by carriers, who are notorious for intentionally delaying updates for their benefit.
