Google is rolling out a new Gmail update on Android that finally brings support for Exchange email accounts. The release comes 18 months after the Gmail app first started supporting third-party mail services.

Despite launching the amazing Inbox service — which we highly recommend if you use Gmail — Google hasn’t neglected its official Gmail app. It frequently receives updates that add functionality and make big improvements, the latest of which will be welcomed with open arms.

Until today, the Gmail app has supported Gmail (obviously), and IMAP/POP accounts like Yahoo, Hotmail, iCloud, and just about everything else. Almost any mail account for personal use has been supported, then. And now enterprise users can enjoy the app, too.

With an update that’s rolling out now on Android, you’ll be able to choose Exchange when setting up new mail accounts inside the Gmail app. It might take a while to reach everyone, but it’s on its way — so look out for it in the Play Store.
