BlackBerry has started rolling out its first phase of Marshmallow beta releases for the Priv.

Those who were first to signup for the beta earlier this month can expect to receive a software update over-the-air — but only if they’ve followed BlackBerry’s instructions first.

Gaining access to BlackBerry’s early Marshmallow release is actually pretty exhausting. Once you are invited to sign up, you have to enter the program through BlackBerry’s website, enable diagnostic reporting, and send a bug report to BlackBerry.

It doesn’t sound like a lot of work, but it’s certainly not a simple process. It is worth it if you get your hands on the Marshmallow upgrade early, though — and a small group of Priv users are right now, BlackBerry confirmed today.

“We will take a similar approach to how we brought people into the program when rolling out the software update: start with a small group, monitor for any critical issues, then expand to larger and larger groups,” the Canadian company explains.

BlackBerry expects to upgrade all Priv owners who were invited to test Marshmallow by the end of the week, assuming there are no issues in the meantime. If you’ve already received it, let us know what it’s like down in the comments.

BlackBerry has promised to deliver its final Marshmallow upgrade for Priv — which will be available to all users — by May.
