BlackBerry will deliver its Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Priv by the end of this quarter, the company confirmed at CES 2016 in Las Vegas this week. Users will likely have to wait another couple of months for it, but it is on the way!

When BlackBerry launched Priv last November, it came with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed, which was already outdated by then. This wouldn’t have put too many BlackBerry fans off, but those who purchased Priv have been wondering when they’ll get Google’s latest software.

BlackBerry told us back then that Priv would receive Marshmallow sometime in 2016, which was enigmatic and somewhat concerning. Could that mean we’ll been waiting until July? October? Or even December for taste of sweet, sweet Marshmallow on the Priv?

Fortunately, no. We still don’t have a specific release date for the upgrade, but BlackBerry executive Ron Louks has now promised that it will arrive during Q1 2016, which ends in March.

We’re hoping to get a better timeline — and to find out more about Marshmallow for the Priv — during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. In the meantime, we expect BlackBerry to continue rolling out patches and improvements for Lollipop, and its own Android apps.
