Google has announced that its third developer preview of Android M has been delayed. The company hasn’t yet confirmed when the update will be available, but it has said it will be a “near final” release that will be free from major bugs.

“We want this to be a near final release to test your apps on, but we need a little more time to get it out to you,” explains Google developer Wojtek Kaliciński on Google+. Exactly how much time it needs is unclear, but Kaliciński promises to update fans on Google+ “as soon as it’s ready.”

With a near final release, Android developers will be able to prepare their apps for Android M’s release this fall on a stable system, without the fear of any significant changes under the hood later on. It also allows those who have been really itching to try Android M to install it without breaking anything.

Having said that, we still don’t recommend you install developer previews on daily drivers; stick to stable software on devices you rely on, or you could regret it.
