ASUS ZenWatch 2 steals Apple Watch’s digital crown concept

The Digital Crown is making its leap to Android Wear.

The Digital Crown is making its leap to Android Wear.

The Asus ZenWatch 2 smartwatch certainly has something familiar about it, right?

The latest Android Wear device to be shown off at the Computex trade show in Taipei, Asus’ new timepiece sticks by and large to the form factor of its first generation device, aside from the notable addition of a suspiciously-familiar Apple-style digital crown.

Check out a video below:

Color-wise, the ZenWatch 2 will be available in silver, gunmetal, and rose gold, while you’ll be able to augment it with blue, orange, red, and taupe leather and rubber straps, or else stainless steel link bracelets.

It will also sport 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3 on its face, an unnamed Qualcomm processor, and a magnetic charger to keep it juiced throughout the day.

There are few other details other than that, but I’d expect the ZenWatch 2 to retail for around the same as its predecessor, which means it will go on sale at $199.

For the more cash-rich consumers, Asus has also teamed up with Swarovski Professional to create a special leather strap accented with crystals and an embossed diamond pattern.

A sleek-looking Android Wear device then, although am I crazy for thinking I actually preferred the more minimalist look of the original?
