HTC’s next flagship to boast wireless charging like rival Galaxies

HTC’s new One M9 hasn’t even gone on sale yet, and already the rumor mill is talking about its successor. Sources familiar with the Taiwanese company’s plans claim that next year’s One M10 will have wireless charging built-in as standard, just like Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Taiwanese publication CTimes claims that Howard Lee, Senior Director of Project Management and Electrical Structure at HTC, has already confirmed that the One M9’s successor will boast wireless charging technology.

Like with the Galaxy S6 and many other Android-powered smartphones, this would give the One M10 the ability to charge simply by being placed on a compatible charging pad. It’s unclear at this point which wireless charging standard HTC will employ.

We have to admit, it seems incredibly unlikely anyone connected with HTC would be confirming One M10 features before the One M9 has even gone on sale. Maybe Lee was actually referring to the upcoming One M9 Plus instead.

Either way, it’s probably best to take this one with a pinch of sale for now. Wireless charging certainly seems like a plausible upgrade for HTC’s next device — it is becoming increasingly popular, after all — but with the One M10 likely a year away, lots could change before its official unveiling.
