MultiROM, the popular tweak that allows users to boot between an almost unlimited number of ROMs on their Android-powered smartphones and tablets, now supports Sony’s latest Xperia devices. So, if you can’t decide whether you want CyanogenMod, ParanoidAndroid, or Sony’s stock firmware, you can now install all three and switch between them.

MultiROM is the ultimate tweak for avid ROM flashers. It removes the pain of switching between different ROMs by allowing you to install almost as many as you wish — and then giving you the option to choose between them every time you boot up your device. The tweak has been around a while now, but it has just delivered support for a number of Sony Xperia devices.

The Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, and the Xperia ZL are all supported in MultiROM v30x, the latest version of the software, and others should be added in future updates.

The only thing that limits the number of ROMs you can use with MultiROM is your storage space, but not only can you boot from your device’s internal storage, but also from external USB drives connected via an OTG cable. You can even restore Nandroid backups as secondary ROMs.

As with anything like this, however, there are some caveats. “This whole thing is basically one giant hack,” explains MultiROM creator Garcia98. “None of these systems are made with multibooting in mind.” With that being the case, there’s always a possibility something could go wrong.

It’s recommended that you don’t use MultiROM unless you really know what you’re doing, then, but if you feel confident, you’ll find the downloads you need as well as step-by-step installation instructions in the original XDA Developers thread.
