Owners of the Shield tablet will get their first taste of Android 5.0 Lollipop this month, NVIDIA has confirmed, making the Shield one of the first third-party devices to get the upgrade. NVIDIA has released a one-minute video that showcases some of the things users have to look forward to, such as Material Design and a new Dabbler app.

Lollipop on the Shield is close to pure Android; there is no third-party user interface or design customizations, which is why NVIDIA is able to make it available to users so quickly. That means Shield users will experience all of Google’s improvements just like a Nexus owner will — as they were designed.

You will find some NVIDIA apps built-in, however, including updated and improved Dabbler and Shield Hub applications.

NVIDIA hasn’t provided us with a specific release date, but with less than four weeks left in November, we don’t have too long to wait.
