Sony has made its new PS4 Remote Play app available to download from Google Play. Before you get too excited and rush off to download it to your Android device, however, you should know that it’s currently only compatible with the Japanese company’s latest Xperia smartphones and tablets.

Sony is expected to bring PS4 Remote Play to older Xperia devices — such as the Xperia Z2 — but right now, it’s only compatible with the new Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z3 Compact, and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. All three devices were announced at IFA 2014 in Berlin back in September, and they’re the first to debut the Remote Play feature.

With the PS4 Remote Play app now available in Google Play, Sony can roll out frequent updates to add new features and improve the user experience as and when they’re needed — without having to release larger firmware upgrades.

This also means that when the Japanese company does decide to add support for other devices, they’ll be able to download the app from Google Play and won’t have to wait for a software update that could take months to be approved by their carrier.

If you don’t have one of Sony’s latest Xperia devices, you can download an unofficial Ps4 Remote Play port that’s compatible with almost all Android devices. All you need is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or later and a custom recovery.
