Google has finally rolled out its latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat update, which sports build number “KTU84P” to the 2013 Nexus 7 LTE, almost four months after it was made available to the Wi-Fi only model. The release contains important security fixes, as well as a fix for the Android camera bug that was responsible for severe battery drain.

Google first rolled out Android 4.4.4 to Nexus devices way back in June, addressing an OpenSSL vulnerability, and making some other small improvements. But for whatever reason, the release wasn’t made available to the latest Nexus 7 LTE didn’t get it… until now.

Shortly after making the factory image available on Thursday evening, Google began rolling out the update over-the-air. It weighs in at just 2.4MB — so it won’t take you long to download or install — but with those important security fixes, it’s recommended that you install it as soon as you can.

This will be the last KitKat update the Nexus 7 receives from Google. The search giant is scheduled to launch its next-generation Android L update this fall, and its own Nexus hardware will be first in line to receive it. Hopefully Nexus 7 LTE owners won’t have to wait quite so long for that update.
