New Moto 360 images reveal wireless charging dock for the first time

Motorola has been keeping the Moto 360’s charging method a secret since its first unveiling earlier this year, but new photos of the device reveal its unique wireless charging dock for the first time. Unlike the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live, the Moto 360 doesn’t appear to have any external connectors on its back, and it’s a great bedside clock while it’s charging.

The Moto 360 uses the Qi wireless charging standard, according to a recent FCC filing, which is the same technology adopted by a number of popular smartphone manufacturers. The advantage of this that there are no external connectors on either the watch or the dock, so you don’t have to worry about lining them up just right when you set the device down to charge.

You also won’t have to worry about corroding pins, or the possibility of breaking pins on your dock and having to replace it — problems that many G Watch and Gear Live owners have had to deal with.  What’s more, the dock has been designed to allow users to see the watch face while it’s charging — so if you plug it in by your bedside at night, you can see your Moto 360’s face without even lifting your head.

Other images from Mister Gadget confirm that the Moto 360 is indeed made out of stainless steel and not plastic, and give us a feel for just how big the device will be. What we still don’t know at this point, however, is when we’ll finally be able to buy the device, or how much it will cost.
