Wednesday’s Must Have Game: World at Arms

Today’s selection for our weekly Wednesday’s Must Have Game column is called World at Arms and originally launched for Android back in 2013. The title has since been named as one of the best action-based games on the market and just two months ago it surpassed 20,000,000 downloads with over 250,000 five-star ratings. Now that’s pretty impressive.

The developer behind World at Arms is Gameloft, possibly the most respectable developer in the mobile gaming industry, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Your role in this free-to-play modern-war strategy game is to create and construct a city in which to command your army from. In order to play it, though, you’ll need a lot of patience — everything takes a while to build and resources have to be accumulated over a period of time.

Once you have successfully constructed your city, which should include housing, barracks, training grounds and other vital structures, you’ll need to start training your troops as well as managing your economy. Initially, you will have to do all of this manually by earning money from trading goods with other players, then once you’ve developed your army to an adequate standard you can go to war with other players (via the integrated multiplayer function) in order to deprive them of resources for your personal gain. You can then use this loot to further develop your empire.

You’re required to continue repeating the following steps until you have the strongest city in the entire World at Arms community:

  • Developing your empire
  • Strengthening your army
  • Going to war with other players

If you don’t wish to play online, however, there is also a very addictive singleplayer game mode integrated in this title. If you choose to play in this mode, you will have to defend your nation from the “evil KRA forces” that wage war on the entire world. To do this you’ll need to upgrade both your armies and cities defences to prevent the KRA from breaching your borders and taking control of your land.
