Moto 360 to support Qi wireless charging technology

Moto-360-Android-Wear

Charging your Moto 360 smartwatch could be as easy as placing it down on a wireless charging pad beside your bed before you go to sleep at night. The new Android Wear device is expected to come with Qi wireless charging technology built-in, according to official Motorola images submitted to the FCC.

Although the images aren’t directly related to the Moto 360, but rather Motorola’s upcoming “SPN5845A” Wireless Charger, there’s no doubt the two are designed to go hand-in-hand.

Motorola mentions in its covering letter to the FCC that the charger is “intended for use with the Moto 360 wrist-worn device,” which is also listed as “test support equipment” within the filing.

It’s unclear whether the Moto 360 will also have a micro USB charging option, or whether a Qi wireless charger will be mandatory. We can’t imagine the company would force users to buy a wireless charger alongside it, but you never know.

Theoretically, if the device works with Motorola’s own wireless charger, it should work with others that use the Qi standard. So if you already have one for your smartphone and other gadgets, there’s a good chance it’ll be compatible with the Moto 360, too.
