After announcing its new HTC One M8 this morning, HTC published a press release that confirms its new flagship will also be available as a Google Play Edition handset. This variant will give those who prefer a stock Android experience the chance to buy the device with HTC’s Sense 6 user interface removed — and pre-orders start today.

HTC’s new Sense 6 user interface is actually a huge improvement over its predecessor, with better BlinkFeed, improved Sense TV, and lots of awesome new camera features that really take advantage of that new Duo Camera. But HTC won’t force it down your throat when you buy the new HTC One M8.

If you prefer stock Android, you can have it with the Google Play Edition handset. It sports exactly the same physical design, but it runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat as Google intended it — free from third-party apps and tweaks.

Pre-orders start today, HTC says — though there’s no sign of it on Google Play just yet — and the handset will be available “in the coming weeks.”

Which model will you be going for?
