A couple of days ago, Samsung released the Android 4.4 kernel source for the T-Mobile Note 3 which indicated that the update should not be far away. Less than two days later, the ‘uncarrier’ has started rolling out the update for the latest and greatest flagship from Samsung.

The 500MB OTA update with the build number N900TUVUCNB4 is rolling out in batches so the update notification might not pop up on your phablet instantly. However, you can always pull the update from T-Mobile servers by going into Settings -> About Phone and selecting the Software Update option.

The KitKat update brings with it subtle improvements throughout the UI including a transparent status bar with white notification icons, improved performance, a new lock screen music widget, system wide emoji support, Wireless Printing service, an enhanced Location service menu, Hangouts as an optional Messaging app and Tap & Pay via NFC. Sadly, the update will also severely limit SD card functionality and prevent third party apps from writing or reading files from them.

If you have already updated your Note 3 to KitKat, do drop in a comment and let us know what you think about it.
