Sprint EVO 4G LTE Android 4.3 With Sense 5 Update Coming Soon But Not Via OTA

In their Reddit AMAA, HTC was very transparent about how updates work, why it could not bring Android 4.4 KitKat to the One X/X+ and more. The company also revealed in their AMAA the (very unique) reason as to why it has been delaying the Android 4.3 update for the Sprint EVO 4G LTE, which is essentially a variant of the international One X with a kickstand.

The Sprint EVO 4G LTE was first scheduled to get its Android 4.3 with Sense 5 update in November last year, but the company pushed it by nearly six months to mid-February. The reason behind the delay? The lack of free space on the system partition of EVO 4G LTE.

According to HTC, the system partition on the EVO 4G LTE does not have the required space for it to push out an OTA update.

On the brightside, HTC is developing a simple update process for its technically inclined EVO 4G LTE users to allow them to update their device to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The company has just started a trial for this process and if you’d like to take part in it, drop an email to email hidden; JavaScript is required.

While it is shameful that HTC can’t update the EVO 4G LTE via an OTA, the company must be praised for devoting additional resources and effort to make sure technical users can get their hands on the update.
