This Tiny Chrombox From Asus Can Output 4K Video

Asus-Chromebox

Asus announced its latest Chromebox this week, and despite its tiny footprint, it’s packing quite a hefty punch. In addition to the latest Intel Haswell processors, the device also boasts HD graphics and is capable of throwing out Ultra HD 4K video. What’s more, it costs just $179.

This is “the best Chrome OS computer,” Asus claims, and it’s not difficult to see why. It promises “ultrafast multitasking,” numerous connectivity options, support for multiple monitors, and high-performance Wi-Fi. It’s also incredibly affordable.

Here’s what the Chromebox is packing under the hood:

  • Intel Haswell processor
  • Up to 4GB of RAM
  • Integrated Intel HD graphics
  • SD card reader
  • 4x USB 3.0 ports
  • HDMI and DisplayPort with support for 4K video
  • 100GB of Google Drive storage
  • 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi

All of this is packed into a box that measures just 4.88 inches wide and 1.65 inches tall.

“The ASUS Chromebox offers the simplicity, security and speed of Chrome OS in the most compact and powerful Chrome device to date,” said Felix Lin, director of product management for Google. “Perfect for home, the classroom or the office, Chromebox is designed for the way we use computers today.”

The Chromebox will go on sale this March for $179. You will need to provide your own mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
