Samsung unveiled the scaled-down variant of its former flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S3, back in October, 2012, and a month later the handset was available in the U.S. from Amazon for $599.99. The S3 Mini isn’t old hat by any means, packing a 4-inch super AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, a NovaThor U8420 chipset powered by two 1GHz Cortex-A9 CPU’s, 1GB of RAM, Mali–400 GPU, 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 32GB via microSD), a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera equipped with face and smile detection, a VGA front-facing shooter and a 1,500 removable Li-Ion battery.

The handset ships running the latest build of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean skinned with Samsung’s custom TouchWiz user interface, which Samsung claims is the “easier way to use your device, giving you intuitive control over everyday tasks.” However, it’s expected to receive the much-anticipated Android 4.3 update in the not-too-distant future.
