BBM For Android Beta Gets Channels & Voice Calling

BBM-Voice-Android

BlackBerry has updated the BBM for Android app inside the BlackBerry Beta Zone to add Channels and BBM Voice calling. Those lucky enough to have access to the beta releases can download the version 200.0.0.138 update right away.

Channels, which made its public debut on BlackBerry 10 back in late November, is one of the features that differentiates BBM from its many rival messaging services. The feature lets BBM users follow Channels based around their interests, then engage in conversation and share pictures with other BBM users.

BBM Voice is just like Skype — it gives BBM users the ability to make free VoIP calls to other BBM users anywhere in the world.

BlackBerry showed off these features on Android and iOS with a promotional video back in December. In addition to Channels and BBM Voice, the update will also include faster and easier photo sharing, increased group sizes in BBM Groups, new emoticons, and more.

Providing beta testing goes well and there are no major issues with this update, it should be making its way to the public relatively soon. We’ll be sure to keep you posted.
