Google Planning To Sell Android Powered HUD Glasses by Year’s End?

By now you may have heard the rumor that Google is working on some high-tech sci-fi glasses that will provide users with real-time information via a HUD display. While the thought alone is enough to cause an instant geekgasm, could this rumor actually come to fruition? According to the New York Times it most certainly will, and it will by year’s end.

Unnamed Google insiders have apparently spilled the beans regarding the project and say these glasses will be out by year’s end with a price tag similar to a current smartphone. The glasses will feature a small screen that will sit a few inches from the eye and will include various sensors. Powered by Android, users will be able to get real-time information about their surrounding via a HUD and also have integration with a number of Google software products. They’ll offer a 3G or 4G data connection, a unique navigation system, a low-resolution built-in camera, and all the augmented reality goodness one could ever imagine.

I’m definitely intrigued and hope the rumors are true. I could think of a million uses for such tech and would love to see it further developed. What kind of information would you like to see these glasses provide as you’re looking through them?

Wouldn’t a paired (with your smartphone) display headphone glasses make more sense?

I believe that’s where its going. You can’t put the brains of an android or iOS device inside a pair of glasses without making you look like a complete idiot with a battery sticking out of your head. Integration is the future. As bluetooth 4.0 and further releases and/or NFC/Wireless interlink stuff progresses, GoogleX’s glasses and possibly an Apple designed eyepiece could be in the future without looking like a complete nerd.
