Back in August, HTC announced the Desire 500 as a variant to its former flagship Android-powered smartphone, the HTC Desire, and now Carphone Warehouse have launched the mid-range handset in the U.K.

The Desire 500 is a fairly-impressive affordable smartphone, which packs a 4.3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 800, a mediocre 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, an Adreno 203 GPU, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64GB via microSD), dual SIM capabilities and a removable 1,800 mAh Li-Ion battery.

The device ships running the latest build of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean skinned with version 5 of HTC’s Sense custom UI, with the same BlinkFeed news interface that can be found on most high-end HTC smartphones.

British retailer, Carphone Warehouse, have exclusivity over the white version of the smartphone, but it also stocks the Desire 500’s standard black variant. The handset is available for free through CPW on any 24-month contract starting at £15 per month. Alternatively, you can grab the handset on PAYG for a very reasonable one-time fee of £199.99.
