Sony Announces Android 4.3 & Android 4.4 Upgrade Plans For Xperia Devices

KitKat 10

Sony has this week confirmed its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade plans for Xperia smartphones and tablets. If you have a recent, high-end Xperia device, then you’ll be eligible for both updates — and you can expect the first to start rolling out “from next month.”

“We’re pleased to tell you that we’ll start rolling Android 4.3 for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 from next month,” Sony announced on its blog.

The Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V will also skip Android 4.2.2 and be upgraded straight to Android 4.3 from next month, too.

So, what about Sony’s KitKat updates — that’s what you’re all waiting to hear about, right? Well, don’t get too excited just yet. Sony has confirmed KitKat will come to the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra, and Xperia Z1 — but it hasn’t yet said when it will be available.

It’s also worth noting that other Xperia devices may get KitKat, too, but these are the only ones confirmed by Sony so far. Keep an eye on Sony’s blog and its Sony Mobile Twitter feed for updates as soon as they’re available.
