The popular U.K. based independent retailer Argos has officially launched its first budget-friendly Android powered tablet. Entitled “MyTablet,” the 7-inch slate will be available to purchase in stores starting today, October 16, priced at just £99.99.

In terms of performance, the MyTablet is not too impressive, especially when compared to the device it’s primarily designed to compete against – the Tesco Hudl.

The tablet packs a 7-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024 x 600, a 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64GB via microSD) and a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera.

On the software side, Argos’s MyTablet will ship running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, with Angry Birds, BBC iPlayer, Facebook and e-reader software pre-loaded.

The device is available in pink or silver aluminium, and according to Argos, it’s mainly aimed at the “tweenie” market of 8-to-13 year-olds, and comes with parental controls enabled straight out of the box.
