Samsung has today unveiled Shape M7, a $400 wireless speaker that hopes to compete with the Sonos. It connects to your smartphone, tablet, or computer via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or NFC, and there’s a handy companion app that makes setup easy on Android and iOS devices.

The Shape M7 sports a somewhat strange triangular shape, but it doesn’t look too different to competing wireless speakers from the front. Each unit boasts five drivers, two mid-range speaker, two silk dome tweeters, and a foam core woofer.

If you buy more than one, you can connect them via a $50 Samsung “Hub” and play music in sync throughout your home — you’ll still be able to control each unit — and its volume — separately, however. This functionality allows the Shape M7 to compete with Sonos Bridge, a feature that has made Sonos speakers to popular.

The Shape M7 won’t just play music you have stored locally on your device, but also content streamed from Amazon Cloud Player, Pandora, Rhapsody, TuneIn Radio, and other third-party services. Samsung hasn’t yet reached deals with Spotify and Rdio, however, will it will have to do in order to catch up with Sonos.

The Shape M7 and the Samsung Hub will be available to purchase at retail on October 13.
