Google Maps Update Brings Faster Access To Navigation, Improved Hotel Search & More!

Google is pushing out a new update for its Maps application, which received a rather hefty upgrade not too long ago. This new update makes accessing the navigation screen considerably quicker and easier, with the introduction of a Google Now route and traffic overview card. In addition, the development team at Mountain View HQ has implemented a brand new ‘Tips and Tricks’ section of the app which is accessible via the hamburger menu, mounted on the left-hand side of the screen.

When you click the ‘Tips and Tricks’ button, you are redirected to a Google Support website which provides you with three headings, which are as follows; Search and explore, Customize Your Map and Get On Your way. Inside each of these headings are several links, which are designed to help you get the most out of the Maps application, by customizing it to suit your needs.

The Maps app comes pre-loaded on all Android devices and allows users to explore new places and navigate around the world with voice guided turn-by-turn GPS navigation, which supports public transport, cycle routes, and walking/driving directions.

The full changelog for the update can be seen below:

  • Faster access to navigation, complete with route and traffic overview
  • Improved hotel search results with sponsored rates and booking links
  • Tips and Tricks available in the side menu
