Spotify today announced Spotify Connect, a new wireless streaming service akin to Apple’s AirPlay that will allow you to seamlessly stream its 20 million tracks to compatible smartphones, tablets, and speakers around your home. The feature will be built into upcoming speakers and home audio systems from Bang & Olufsen, Philips, Pioneer, and more.

With Spotify Connect, you can quickly send the music you’re listening to on your smartphone to compatible speakers in your home — simply tap a button on your stereo and your track will instantly begin playing right where it left off. So the music no longer has to stop just because you had to take a call, and it won’t be interrupted by incoming notifications.

“Today, listening to music at home can be a frustrating experience – dropouts, below-par audio quality, signal range and phone restrictions, battery drainage, it’s basically a hassle,” says Sten Garmark, VP Product Management at Spotify. “Spotify Connect solves this by giving you effortless control of your music across your phone, tablet and now speakers with millions of songs built right in.”

Spotify Connect will be available to Spotify Premium subscribers using the iPhone and iPad “in the coming months,” with support for Android and desktops coming later on. It will also be compatible with upcoming home audio systems from Argon, Bang & Olufsen, Denon, Marantz, Philips, Pioneer, Revo, Teufel and Yamaha, and others.
