Just days ahead of the Moto X’s launch on Verizon, Motorola has started selling the phone through its own Moto Maker website. You can buy the phone without a carrier contract through Moto Maker, and pricing starts at $579.

The advantage of using the Moto Maker site is that you can customize the device’s colors and engraving, but the only carrier that is supported is still AT&T.

Motorola plans to release a developer edition of the Moto X soon. The device will feature a special color combo, 32GB of storage, and an unlockable bootloader.

When the Moto X becomes available on Verizon come August 29th, you’ll only be able to buy the black and white models online. AT&T has exclusive rights to use Moto Maker during the launch phase of the phone. Sprint and T-Mobile have not yet announced availability.
