Verizon To Host July 23rd Event To Unveil New Droids

Verizon has started to send members of the press invites to an event hosted in New York City on July 23rd. According to the invite, Verizon says it will “unveil the next generation of one of [its] most popular family of devices,” which probably means it will introduce the next line of Droids at the event.

Motorola is expected to release at least three new Droid phones – Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini – to replace the line up of the Droid RAZR HD, RAZR Maxx HD, and RAZR M that were introduced last summer.

Here’s what we know about the three phones so far:

The DROID Mini will be an entry-level smartphone with a 4.3-inch display. The DROID Ultra, which briefly appeared on Motorola’s website earlier this month, will have a 5-inch 1080p display with the latest Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 10-megapixel rear-facing camera.

As for the DROID MAXX, that’s likely to be a lot like the Droid Ultra, though it’s hard to see how Motorola could improve on those specifications. It could have a slightly bigger display to compete with the latest phablets and possibly a better rear-facing camera, but we’ll find out for sure during our live coverage of the keynote on July 23rd.
