We first saw the Huawei Ascend Mate back at CES 2013, in January with its enormous 6.1 inch screen, at the time one of the largest we had ever seen on a smartphone, and now six months later the device is about to make its way to the U.K. market through the major U.K. carrier, Vodafone, who confirmed that it would be hosting the 6.1-inch phablet in an official blog post on its website yesterday.

We have no information on when this mighty handset is expected to launch nor how much it is likely to be, but we do know that the Ascend Mate will enter the market as a high-end Android smartphone, featuring a 6.1-inch IPS display, a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and an impressive 4050 mAh battery.

“The Huawei Ascend Mate has the biggest battery in any smartphone, by a long way. We’ve also got our own patented battery optimisation technology, which is designed to make phones last about 30 per cent longer than similar products,” claims UK Product Director at Huawei, James Powell.

Huawei isn’t going to have an easy time drawing in customers for its Ascend Mate as it is not the only 6-inch+ smartphone on the market anymore, now there are others which have a lot to offer too. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra packs a 6.4-inch display and the Samsung Galaxy Mega features a 6.3-inch display; both devices also bring a lot to the table in terms of specifications.
