May was a great month for HTC, and more specifically its flagship HTC One. According to a report from CitiGroup Global Markets, the company’s sales doubled from April to May, with a total of 1.2 million units sold. However, that could all change by July 2013.

The One is HTC’s flagship device of 2013, featuring a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch LCD3 1080p display, 32GB of internal storage, and 2GB of RAM. All of these specifications contribute to a fantastic device.

So it’s no surprise that the One is said to have accounted for around 49% of HTC’s total sales in May. However, it doesn’t get anywhere near Samsung’s Galaxy S4 sales, which reportedly hit 10 million units in its first month of release.

Regardless of HTC’s dramatic sales increase, CitiGroup Global Markets has predicted that sales of the One will stay flat in June and begin to decline rapidly in July. Demand for the One in the United States is seen to be declining, which does not help HTC’s sales as its main market for the One is based in the States.

CitiGroup claims the One’s sales decline is probably due to saturated demand in mature markets and the sheer anticipation for new devices, like a new iPhone, and begs the question, could an HTC Mini or the Google Edition HTC One help?

We’ll have to wait and see, but we’re rooting for HTC here. We believe the HTC One is a fantastic device — possibly the best of 2013 so far — and it’s not the first great smartphone HTC has produced. We’d hate to see the Taiwanese company disappear.
