LG Prepares New Tablet Following Smartphone Success [Rumor]

LG-Optimus-Pad

LG is said to be developing a new tablet following its recent success in the smartphone space. It’s thought the device could launch during the third quarter of this year, between July and September, but specifications are unknown at this time.

This wouldn’t be the first time LG has dipped its feet into the tablet market. The Korean electronics manufacturer launched the Android-powered Optimus Pad — also known as the T-Mobile G-Slate — back in March 2011, but it was largely a flop that didn’t sell well.

However, LG’s recent success in the smartphone space with some pretty exciting devices has reportedly inspired the company to build another slate. A report from Munhwa.com claims the device will launch during the third quarter of 2013, but that’s pretty much all we know about it at this point.

There is no mention of the slate’s specifications, or even which platform it will run. There’s a good chance the device will run Android, but it’s possible LG could be looking to get involved with Windows 8 instead.

LG’s original tablet came at a time when Android-powered slates were very much a rarity. That’s no longer the case, and devices like the Kindle Fire and the Nexus 7 sell very well.

For now, it’s recommended you take this rumor with a pinch of salt, given the little information we have about this device. We’ll be sure to bring you any further details as we get them.
