The First Firefox OS Smartphones Go On Sale Today, Starting At $119

Geeksphone-Keon-Peak

Have you been itching to become one of the first adopters of a Firefox OS smartphone? Then go grab your credit card, because the first Firefox OS smartphones go on sale today. Starting at $119 SIM-free, the Geeksphone duo are really aimed at Firefox OS developers who want to start building apps for the platform.

But you don’t have to be a developer to bag one, and Geeksphone is willing to ship all over the world.

The Keon is the cheapest of the two devices, priced at $119, and it packs a 3.5-inch HVGA (480×320), a 1GHz single-core Snapdragon S1 processor, and 512MB of RAM. Other internals include 4GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera.

The Peak is a little bigger and a little more impressive. Priced at $194, it offers a larger 4.3-inch qHD (940×540) display, a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, and 512MB of RAM. It also delivers 4GB of storage, a microSD card clot, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

Neither of these handsets are going to steal market share away from devices like the Galaxy S4, of course, but again, that’s not what they’re designed to do; they’re aimed at developers who want to get their hands on Firefox OS as quickly as possible and begin building apps.
