Apple Co-Founder Says The iPhone Is ‘Somewhat Behind’ Android

Woz loves Android even though he co-founded Apple

Steve Wozniak says the darnest things. Even though he’s the co-founder of Apple, and was one of Steve Jobs’ best friends, he’s not afraid to say what’s on his mind when he’s thinking something negative about Apple.

In a recent interview with the German newspaper Wirtschafts Woche, Woz says that even though Apple’s fans are very loyal, the iPhone is starting to fall behind the competition.

“I am proud that we have such loyal fans. But this loyalty is not given, the needs with the best products are always kept alive and confirmed.

Currently we are in my opinion in the smartphone business with the features somewhat behind. Others have caught up. Samsung is a great competitor. But precisely because they are currently making great products.”

Woz has always been open with his opinions regarding Apple competitors. He’s even told us on The CultCast that he carries a Samsung Galaxy S3 with him at all times along with a couple iPhones.

Last year Woz claimed that Windows Phone apps are “more beautiful” than those found on Android or iOS. He’s also been vocal about his disappointment in Siri. Many of Woz’s claims against Apple are valid as the Android platform enjoys a number of software and hardware features that haven’t been seen on iOS yet.

Apple is expected to unveil their latest version of iOS, iOS 7, later this summer. Whether it will be enough to make Woz happy though, well we won’t hold our breath.

Woz loves android? I think Woz loves attention.

Really? So, I want to see the 45.000.000.000 US$ Cash for share holders delivered by Google please. Hello Google? Leading? What? With your Android? Hahaha … NO!

On the other hand, if Woz were that all-knowing, he’d have been as successful as Steve Jobs, and as respected. Easy to poke holes in that which you have not envisioned, designed, manufactured or marketed.

You hit the nail on the head.

Successful? How do you measure success?

Woz has, apparently, had much of his life to do whatever he would like to do. That sounds pretty successful.

        Exactly. Thank you.

LOL. That’s gotta hurt for some people’s ego.

Only those that think a lot of Woz maybe, but I don’t care what Woz thinks. He isn’t exactly someone I follow. I never read his books or really listened to him. Woz really doesn’t do anything anymore and he’s never really known anything other than just doing some hardware designs. Plus, what he likes and dislikes isn’t what everyone likes and dislikes.

I started this four months/ago and immediately began to earn at least $74, per-hr. I follow the details on this straightforward website,, FLY38. ℂOM

Bull dookey. Woz must need money, and is getting some for saying these stupid things.

Erm, Woz hit $100m net worth years ago, in fact , due to the fact that he is invested in Apple, saying something like this actually harms his financial position. Please learn what you are talking about.

There are lots of features that iOS lacks. Widgets, for a somewhat simple example.

I haven’t heard Woz saying anything nice about Apple in awhile. It’s as if Apple isn’t making any products that people could possibly want. Oh, wait….

    • NutjobNumber1

I think he wants attention and since Jobs isn’t around, he spouts off his mouth. personally, he’s someone I wouldn’t listen to. Seriously, whether he liked Apple products (which he still lines up to buy) or not.

I’m an apple fanboy just like the rest of you sorry sacks that are dissing Woz, but he is just simply being objective about the competition. It’s obviously something none of you are capable of doing.

    • jdram12

Completely agree. iPhone is great I really like it and I’m not planning on changing but Android has so many features a crave for…

  • Wozza

Woz has a point, even dumb arse me can see we are behind Samsung in the Phone market.

  • NutjobNumber1

Woz hasn’t done anything since he left Apple other than goof around. The guy just plays around with cell phones because he has nothing else to do. he doesn’t really need much from a smartphone in the first place. He likes eye candy. Woz has never much paid attention at what corporate customers need. he’s kind of dumb in that area.

I wouldn’t listen much to Woz. In his spare time he plays games. Even though he helped Apple decades ago, he really doesn’t do much.

  • NutjobNumber1

I wonder what Apps Woz uses on both iPhones and Android. He should list the apps on both platforms that he actually uses. They has a pretty big collection of phones that he has.

Woz is becoming more and more of a douche-bag that continues to spit in the face of the company he co-founded. But here’s an analogy I believe is fitting.

He’s Pippen and Jobs is Jordan. Pippen was talented and a great player but could never escape the shadow of Michael Jordan. So rather than praise the man that (more or less) made him a relevant and dominant (in his own right) player, he shoots his mouth off and says that LeBron is a better “scorer” than Jordan causing a tidal wave of dissension in the basketball world.

It doesn’t matter that there are other players may bypass Jordan in terms of individual acclaim or took the best from his game and make it into their own. He’s still the GOAT.

So regardless of Woz’s contribution to the success of Apple he’ll never be his own man so the best he can do is claim Android is the better scorer or that Windows Phone plays better defense.

What’s more annoying is that he seems intent on continuing to remain relevant by getting cozy with as many anti-Apple companies as possible.

As someone else commented, Woz needs attention and the only way he can get it is to appear as anti-Apple as possible using his D-list celebrity clout to stay in the news.

P.S. – Ask Woz if he’d rather use Windows 8 or a ChromeBook over a MacBook.

@Mark Langston, let me tell you this. As much as I respect and praise Steve Jobs, he was the guy that hung around a wiz kid who happened to invent the personal computer. Without one another, none had been successful. Jobs had to be ousted to grow up and learn how to run a company, Jobs has always been surrounded by amazing people, that’s one way to succeed. Woz has always been objective and I respect his opinions as much as Jobs’. I think you are the kind of guy blinded by Jobs’ reality distortion.

Wow, Apple fan boys are really loyal…
